Shelby County Sheriff deputies identify driver killed in two-vehicle accident on State Road 9

SHELBY COUNTY — Shelby County Sheriff deputies said one person died in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in the 10000 block of south State Road 9.

Deputies said a tractor-trailer hauling grain, driven by Gary Jaquess, 65, Columbus, collided head on with a Jeep Liberty driven by Johnathon May, 23, Shelbyville. Witnesses told deputies that the tractor-trailer was northbound on State Road 9 when the Jeep Liberty, southbound on State Road 9, crossed the center line into the northbound lane for an unknown reason, deputies said.

May was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision, deputies said. Jaquess and Alexis Eversole, 22, Shelbyville, who was a passenger int he Jeep Liberty were taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for medical treatment.

An investigation into the accident is continuing, deputies said.
