Locals make IFCA Academic All-State

Several local football players have been named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association Academic All-State team for Region 10.

Columbus East’s Gabriel Chumley, Caaden Gault and Laird Stidham; Columbus North’s Luke Revell and Hudson Elwood and Jennings County’s Branden Braun, Josiah Hifo and Austin Byford were selected.

North football players named All-Region 10

Four Columbus North seniors have been named to the All-Region 10 football team.

Offensive lineman Luke Revell, defensive back Tyrrice DeGraffenried and kicker Bryce Luttrell are joined by manager/trainer Paige Hatter. They are eligible to be selected for this year’s North-South All-Star Classic.

Girls sectional semifinals set

The girls basketball sectional resumes Friday with semifinal contests.

In the Class 4A Whiteland Sectional, Columbus East will square off against the host school at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by Columbus North taking on Franklin in the second semifinal game. The championship is slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Class 4A No. 5 Jennings County will play Jeffersonville at 6 p.m. in the semifinals of the Floyd Central Sectional. In Class A, South Decatur will meet Jac-Cen-Del at 6 p.m. in the Southwestern (Shelby) Sectional, and Trinity Lutheran will face New Washington at 6 p.m. in the New Washington Sectional.

Boys hoops games rescheduled

Columbus North’s boys basketball game at Terre Haute South that was scheduled for Dec. 20 has been postponed to Feb. 24. The JV will begin at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 7:30 p.m. Also, the game against Southport that was scheduled for Jan. 26 has been postponed to Feb. 13. The JV will begin at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 7:30 p.m.

Hauser’s boys basketball home game against Waldron that was scheduled for Jan. 19 has been postponed to Feb. 20. The JV will begin at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 7:30 p.m.

Edinburgh’s boys basketball home game against Southwestern (Shelby) that was scheduled for Jan. 19 has been postponed to Feb. 19. The JV will begin at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 7:30 p.m.

Also, Trinity Lutheran’s boys basketball game at Shawe Memorial that was scheduled for Jan. 19 has been postponed to Saturday. The JV will begin at noon, with the varsity to follow at around 1:30 p.m.
