Tommy Cecil Gambrel Sr.

BUTLERVILLE

Tommy Cecil Gambrel Sr., 76, of Butlerville, passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

Born August 30, 1947, in Knox County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late George and Mossie (Hubbard) Gambrel. He married Hazel Jean Bays, on August 17, 1968, in Pineville, Kentucky;

she survives.

Tommy worked for Arvins in North Vernon for 21 years before retiring in 1991 and had previously worked for Dunlap Construction and Harrison Lake Golf Course, both in Columbus. He was a former member of Butlerville Mennonite Church and Grace Baptist Church in North Vernon. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, pitching horseshoes, and watching the Chicago Cubs and Alanta Braves baseball teams and western movies.

Surviving with his wife of 55 years, Hazel Gambrel of Butlerville, are his sons, Tim (Sherry Branham) Gambrel, Tommy (Candy) Gambrel Jr., and Dustin Gambrel, all of North Vernon; daughter, Trish (Curt) Wells of North Vernon; sister, Judy Gambrel of Ohio; grandchildren, Natasha Starnes, Megan Starnes, Cainan Gambrel, McKinlie Gambrel, Christian (Alysha) Wells, and Vestina Wells, all of North Vernon, Sarah (Curtis) Kirk of Butlerville, and T.J. (Makalah) Gambrel of Scipio; and great-grandchildren, Jase Andrew Kirk of Butlerville and Owen Alcorn and Phoebe White, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Lynn Starnes; grandchildren, Katie and Stephen Starnes; brothers, Ernest, Ronald, and Donald Eldridge, and James Gambrel; and sisters, Nancy Gambrel, Dorothy Fuson, Beulah Gambrel, Rita North, and Ima Jean Bays.

A funeral service for Tommy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will follow in the Scipio Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of Tommy through the funeral home for expenses.
