COLUMBUS, Ind. — Matthew Miller, a Republican on the Bartholomew County Council for the past seven years, said today he will not seek reelection. Today is the final day to file candidacy for the May primary in Indiana.

“Business opportunities have presented themselves that require me to travel more and will make it difficult to attend all meetings and give 100% to my position,” he said.

In his statement, Matthew expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the residents of Bartholomew County. He highlighted the progress made during his tenure and states that the county is in a much better financial situation than it was when he began serving his first term in 2017. “Our rainy-day fund is almost 5 times what it was when I first took office. I am proud to say that I did exactly what I promised when I began my campaign in 2015.”

During his time on the council, Matthew Miller has been a champion for various community
initiatives, including infrastructure development, animal rights-stopping puppy mills, not raising taxes, and economic growth. He served two years as county council president, one as president pro-tempore and also has served on various boards including the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corp.
