Free tax help available

Residents who need assistance with their taxes may sign up for free tax filing through United Way of Bartholomew County’s VITA Volunteer Tax Assistance program.

The program offers free tax filings to Bartholomew County residents who make $66,000 or less annually. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

Income tax assistance appointments will be conducted through mid-April at the Doug Otto United Way Center. Reservations for a tax appointment will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis and are now open. Appointments can be made by calling 812-375-2216 anytime between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spanish speakers may make an appointment by calling Su Casa at 812-375-9370.

In 2023, The VITA Volunteer Tax Assistance program put more than a million dollars back into the local economy by securing tax refunds and saving filing fees for residents.
