Sheriff deputies respond to call about homeowner finding grenade with pin pulled

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies were sent to a home in the county Wednesday afternoon about a grenade that was found with a pin that had been pulled.

Deputies were sent to the 1600 block of County Road 650N early Wednesday afternoon after a homeowner cleaning out a house found the grenade and reported it.

Deputies believed the grenade was inert or possibly fake as the real devices are explosive weapons typically thrown by hand that explode in two to six seconds after the pin is pulled.

The device was turned over to the Columbus Police Department bomb squad as a precaution for them to dispose of it on Wednesday.

No injuries were reported.
