Rutan leads EKU to tourney title
MOBILE, Ala. — Maddi Rutan followed her perfect game in her collegiate softball debut with a one-hit shutout Friday in Eastern Kentucky’s 3-0 win against Northern Illinois in the first game of the South Alabama Invitational. She also scored a run.

Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, went 1 for 3 in the Colonels’ second game on Friday, a 7-4 win against Central Michigan.
On Saturday, Rutan went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs and pitched the final two innings in relief in a 15-12 win against Central Michigan. She then went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and an RBI and pitched seven innings to pick up the win in a 10-7 win against South Alabama.
EKU beat UAB 4-2 on Sunday to go 5-0 for the tournament and improve to 9-0 on the season. Rutan, who was named to the All-Tournament team, now is 5-0 with a 1.19 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched.
