2014

Not many plants survived the bitter winter, but a class at Columbus Signature Academy-New Tech High School managed to find a persistent evergreen plant — and on its leaves, they found a type of yeast that had only been categorized once in Australia. The yeast, called Sporobolomyces elongatus, was discovered in Andrew Larson’s AP Biology class.

1999

Ten Columbus women embarked on the first all-female U.S. goodwill mission to Japan, where they spent 10 days visiting nine Japanese companies with plants in Columbus. Local supporters and businesses who donated about $52,000 toward the trip saw the group off with a reception at the Ramada Inn.

1974

Cincinnati Ballet Company performed at the Columbus East High School auditorium in the second program of the Area Artist Series, made available by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to elected cities within a 100-mile radius of Cincinnati.
