Prep sports notebook: North’s Revell picked for North/South All-Star Game

Columbus North senior offensive lineman Luke Revell has been selected to play in this year’s North/South All-Star Football All-Star Classic.

Revell was named to the South All-Star Team by the Indiana Football Coaches Association. The All-Star Classic will be at 7 p.m. July 12 at Decatur Central.

Also, North’s Paige Hatter was selected as a trainer for the South squad.

East, BCSC to hold ribbon-cutting for new field

Columbus East and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. will host a special ribbon-cutting event at the newly constructed softball diamond and the newly renovated baseball diamond at 5:30 p.m. March 26 on the softball field.

The Olympians baseball team hosts Waubonsie Valley (Ill.), and the softball team will host Edinburgh following the ceremony.

BNL’s Spreen named Miss Basketball

Bedford North Lawrence senior and Alabama recruit Chloe Spreen has been named Indiana Miss Basketball.

Jennings County’s Juliann Woodard, a Michigan State commit, finished fourth in the Miss Basketball voting. Fort Wayne Snider’s Jordyn Poole was second, Noblesville’s Reagan Wilson took third and Indian Creek’s Faith Wiseman was fifth.

Volleyball shifts to one-game regional

With many sports shifting to a one-game regional and a two-game semistate format in team sports, volleyball has followed suit.

At last month’s executive committee meeting, the IHSAA executive board approved a proposal submitted by the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association that the regional format will change to one game with four teams advancing to semistate that will go into effect next year. Also, the cap at 25 points for JV contest for the first and second sets are eliminated and a team has to win the set by two.

Another proposal by the IHSVCA to seed the top two teams in each sectional and regional to allow the best teams the opportunity to play in the championship was opposed 19-0 by the IHSAA.

Matern named Jennings volleyball coach

LeAna Matern has been named the new volleyball head coach at Jennings County.

The Panthers finished last season 19-13 and 4-2 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.
