A poster design by Elaina “Lanie” White, a junior at East, was selected as the official poster representing the 12th annual Mill Race Marathon, while artwork designed by Emma Norton was chosen as the official poster for the annual Kids Fun Run preceding the marathon.

White’s poster will be the official artwork advertising the Sept. 28 event, and she will receive a $500 scholarship check for her winning entry. Copies of the also will be sold during the Mill Race Marathon Expo at The Commons on Sept. 27.

“Your poster work and the creativity that you selected to depict the 12th year was outstanding and although there were many excellent entries to choose from, yours clearly stood out from the rest of the entries,” Mill Race Marathon chair and co-founder Dave Venable wrote in notifying White of her winning poster.

“We especially enjoyed your bright color choices incorporated into the design and it quickly became our judging favorite,” Venable wrote for the judges.

This artwork by Emma Norton is the official poster for the annual Kids Fun Run event on Sept. 27 that precedes the Mill Race Marathon.

Emma, the winner of the poster contest for the Kids Fun Run, will receive a gift certificate and a framed T-shirt including her poster design.

Venable said competition was fierce and more than 100 students submitted design entries.

“The judges (including myself) had a very difficult time, but we selected Emma’s design as the winning entry based upon her creativity, colors, and we believe it will look outstanding on the Kids Fun Run shirts,” Venable said.

Those shirts with the Kids Fun Run poster design also will be available at the marathon expo.

The Kids Fun Run and Mill Race Marathon are among the largest participatory events in Columbus. Last year, more than 500 children from pre-K to sixth grade participated in the fun run and more than 2,200 runners took part in Mill Race Marathon 5K, half-marathon and full marathon races.
