Bull Dog golfers take runner-up in Conference Indiana

EDINBURGH — The Columbus North boys golf team didn’t have its best team performance Monday in the Conference Indiana meet at Timbergate.

However, the Bull Dogs put three players on All-Conference team, but there was no catching Bloomington South. The Panthers fired a team-score of 294, with North finishing runner-up with a 322.

Terre Haute South placed third with a 330, followed by Bloomington North with a 338, Terre Haute North with a 340 and Southport with a 377.

“We would have had to play really well for us to give (Bloomington) South a run for their money. I wish we would have played a little bit better because our team is capable of doing better than this,” North coach Doug Bieker said. “They are young. Brady Schneider is really the only one that has significant experience in tournament conditions. We just have to play better, overall. We have to make really good decisions, staying out of trouble and plotting our way around the golf course a little bit better.”

Schneider finished tied for fourth overall with a 5-over par 77. The Panthers finished had the top three individual placers, with Happy Gilmore winning medalist honors with a 2-under 70.

“Obviously, it’s good I got All-Conference three years in a row, but I know I’m capable of shooting even-par or under-par out here,” Schnider said.

The two other Bull Dogs that made All-Conference were Alex Clark and Austin Perry, who both finished with rounds of 80. Joseph Perkins carded an 85, and Carter Battin shot an 87.

“It kind of ended how it was suppose to based on rankings,” Bieker said. “Overall, I think they’re disappointed and wish they could have done better. We definitely did better than what we did on Saturday.”
