Bull Dogs blank Lancers; Pirates oust Jets in semis

For the second consecutive afternoon, Columbus North needed little time to produce a girls tennis victory.

The co-No. 14-ranked Bull Dogs cruised to a 5-0 semfinal win against Edinburgh in the North Sectional. North (13-4) will play Greensburg, a 5-0 winner against Hauser, in Friday’s 4:30 p.m. final.

The Bull Dogs dropped only two games in the five matches. Kathryn Wilson beat Jessica Walsh at No. 1 singles, and Aya Saad blanked Izzy Richardson at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

North’s Ella Gray Partin, filling in for Annabelle Sun at No. 3 singles, topped Zoey Sida 6-1, 6-0. Lucy Bergman and Lizzie Bodart defeated Mia Dodson and Lily Turner 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Lison Cloteaux and Grace Conner beat Gracie Lawson and Joy Turner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

“The girls were out there doing what we needed to do,” North coach Kendal Hammel said. “We just needed to get through this and move onto the finals.”

Meanwhile, Hauser (6-8) saw its season come to an end with the loss to Greensburg. Bella Kilps fell to Mary Harmon 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Lydia Jordan lost to Emma Kuntz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Kayden Miller fell to Kayla Kramer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Jets’ Mattie Foster and Addy Barriger lost to Janae Comer and Mya Comer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Kaycee Ridgley and Abby Manley fell to Morgan Cain and Claire Nobbe 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
