North takes sixth, East eighth in Unified track sectional

Columbus North finished sixth, Jennings County seventh and Columbus East eighth Saturday in the Floyd Central Unified track and field sectional.

Franklin County won the meet with 113 points, while Indian Creek was runner-up with 101. The Bull Dogs scored 89, the Panthers had 84 and the Olympians finished with 49.

Nolan Riley (28 feet, 5 1/2 inches) and Kaleb Sharpe (20-3 1/2) won their flights of the shot put, and Luke Spurgeon won his heat of the 100 meters (12.59 seconds) to lead North. Noah Marsh took second in his flight of the long jump (15-5 1/2) and in his heat of the 400 (1:03.71), Koady Porter took second in his heat of the 400 (1:25.50) and Brennan Hester was third in his flight in the long jump (15-5).

Olivia Huey led Jennings with a win in her heat of the 100 (16.08). Preston Abbott (16.10) and Markiah Bowman (17.16) finished second an third in that same heat of the 100, and Dylan Matern (7-8 1/2), Adrien Brennan (5-2 1/2) took second in their flights of the long jump and Lauryn Franks (22-9 1/2), Abby Taylor (16-9 1/2) and Adrien Brennan (12-3 1/2) were third in their flights of the shot.

East’s Mayleigh Hardwick won her flight of the long jump (5-11). Addison Emery finished third in her flight of the shot (17-11 1/2), and Sophie Anderson was third in her heat of the 400 (1:42.50).
