College sports notebook: Gilley earns victory in season finale

Cole Gilley picked up his third pitching win of the season Saturday in Indiana State’s 15-4 Missouri Valley Conference victory at Valparaiso to close the season.

Gilley, a redshirt junior from Columbus East, shut out Valpo over the final 3 1/3 innings. He allowed two hits, while striking out five and walking two.

Greenwell collets hits for Raiders

Wright State’s Julian Greenwell went 3 for 5 with a double in an 8-5 loss to Northern Kentucky on Thursday and went 3 for 4 with a home run in an 8-2 loss to Northern Kentucky on Friday.

Greenwell, a fifth-year senior from Columbus East, finished 1 for 5 in a 12-9 victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday.

The Raiders (31-22) will play in the Horizon League Championship beginning on Thursday.

Burnett notches save for Wagner

Wagner’s Alec Burnett, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, pitched the final two innings to earn his seventh save of the season Friday in a 4-2 win over Farleigh Dickinson.

Wagner (25-28) will face Delaware State in the Northeast Conference Tournament on Wednesday.

Harmon helps Reivers to victory

Reese Harmon finished 3 for 4 and scored two runs Saturday to help Iowa Western with a 7-5 win against Wabash Valley College.

Harmon, a junior from Columbus North, had two RBIs in Thursday’s 10-6 win against John A. Logan.

The Reivers are 54-8 on the season.

Wager pitches for Skyhawks

Zach Wager, a sophomore from Columbus North, pitched 2 and 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits with five strikeouts Friday in UT Martin’s 9-3 Ohio Valley Conference loss to Southeast Missouri.
