Brian’s picks

* Look, maybe you need no fresh produce at the moment, or fresh flowers, or arts and crafts or goodness-knows-what. Let me remind you that you still have a pretty good melodic reason to visit the Columbus Farmers Market behind Columbus City Hall along First Street when it opens at 9 a.m. Saturday. Two words: Allie Jean. The local performer can croon everything from bluegrass to her own children’s tunes with an exuberance and richness that has put her before listeners in nearly every setting. And she’s the market’s live entertainment for this weekend. Heck, in a recent social media shot at the market, she was soaking wet — and beaming. Information: columbusfarmersmarket.org.

* With summer most definitely on its way with the recent 80-some-degree temperatures, there’s one figuratively cool place to stay relatively physically cool: the woodsy shade of Brown County State Park in Nashville. The sprawling wilderness offers a range of hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing, breathtaking lookouts, picnic areas, horseback riding, swimming pools, and do you really need that much more? OK then — grab lunch at the Abe Martin Lodge. By the way, some might be disappointed to know that I don’t get much of the Abe Martin humor featured there. But the food is seriously good. * Country artist John Anderson is scheduled for an acoustic show at 7 p.m. Sunday at Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Drive in Nashville. Information: browncountymusiccenter.com.
