EDINBURGH — A fire early Wednesday morning injured an Edinburgh man and killed eight pets.

First responders from the Edinburgh police and fire departments responded at about 12:04 a.m. Wednesday to a garage fire at a home on the 500 block of Sunset Drive, just off Eisenhower Drive. Upon arrival, they saw that a large portion of the residence was already engulfed in flames. Officers helped move occupants of the home to a safer location away from the fire, according to an Edinburgh Police Department news release.

A 48-year-old man who resided at the home was treated for burns to his legs. He was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries by paramedics from the Bargersville Community Fire Department, according to the news release.

Six occupants, along with several animals, were displaced due to “extensive” fire damage. Approximately six cats and two dogs were killed in the fire.

The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little thanked assisting agencies, including Edinburgh Fire, Edinburgh Police, German Township Fire, Amity Fire, Nineveh Fire and Bargersville paramedics. He also thanked Fire Angels, which assisted in provided residents a place to stay and assistance with any items needed.
