Sheriff deputies arrest two after they fled from a traffic stop

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested two people fled from them after a traffic stop.

Deputy Tyler Cooper observed a vehicle traveling on 22nd Street in Columbus on Thursday driven by Sarah Caffee, 32, Columbus, said Sgt. Dane Duke, sheriff’s department spokesman.

Cooper knew that Caffee’s driving privileges had been suspended and he initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and fled for several blocks before coming to a stop. Both occupants of the vehicle, Caffee and a male later identified as Donovan Martin, 27, of Columbus, exited the vehicle then fled on foot.

Law enforcement flooded the area which resulted in locating Caffee nearby on Newton Street where he was taken into custody without incident, Duke said. Martin was found nearby as well and taken into custody. A search of the vehicle found narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia. Law enforcement found in the area of the foot pursuit narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia that were dropped by Martin.

Caffee later told deputies that she did not stop the vehicle because Martin threatened her with a handgun and instructed her to continue driving. A firearm was not located in the vehicle or in the area of the foot pursuits.

Caffee was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the following charges: Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Possession of a Syringe, Reckless Driving, Resisting Law Enforcement and Possession of Paraphernalia. Caffee remains in custody on a $10,000 bond.

Martin was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the following charges: Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of Syringe, Resisting Law Enforcement, Possession of Paraphernalia. Martin remains in custody on a 72 hour hold.
