HOPE
Donald J. Burton, 79, of Hope passed from this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 11:27 p.m. at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Burton was born on January 3, 1945, at home in Bartholomew County, the son of Arch A. and Thelma M. Clark Burton. On March 1, 1963, at Clifford Christian Church he married Dorothy Jean Harris.
Mr. Burton at a young age started working on the family farm and working dairy and beef cattle, which he continued throughout his life. He also, retired after 43 years of service from Reeves Pulley Company. Mr. Burton was a member of St. Louis Crossing Methodist Church, Indiana Red Poll Association, American Red Poll Association and the Union while working at Reeves. He had a tremendous love for gardening and showing cattle.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Jean Burton of Hope, daughter, Lynda Ziegler of Hope, granddaughter, Tyocia Ziegler of Flat Rock; sister, Diana Bennett of California; and several nephews.
Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce Lee Burton on May 3, 2023; and siblings, Kenneth Burton, James Burton, Patsy Settle, Marie Burton, two infant brothers, and one infant sister.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Methodist Church with Pastor Ed Cottrell officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Methodist Church and also from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Burial will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.
