Prep sports notebook: Osborne named Academic All-State; schools select coaches

Blake Osbourne

Columbus North senior Blake Osbourne has been named Academic All-State by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Players who are valedictorian or salutatorian of their class or have a GPA of 4.0 or higher automatically qualify for the IHSBCA Academic All-State team. Beyond that, a formula is used calculating a senior’s SAT score and GPA.

Meanwhile, North senior Connor Hensley has been named All-District G as both a hitter and a pitcher.

Jennings County senior Austin Byford also made the All-District team and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Series. The South will play the North in two nine-inning games on Saturday and one nine-inning game on Sunday at Huntington University. Sunday’s contest will be a wooden-bat game.
