Club Olympia leads Indiana at Open Water Zone; athletes swim in Multi Cultural meet

Club Olympia swimmers led Team Indiana to a fourth-place finish in last weekend’s Central Zone Open Water Championships in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

With eight of Team Indiana’s 40 swimmers, Club Olympia had more swimmers on the team than any other club. Team Indiana placed 4th over-all with a total score of 150 points. Club Olympia swimmers scored 64 of Team Indiana’s 150 points and 63 of the boys’ 77 points.

Chad Pendleton and Aahan Gupta captured first and second in the 10-and-under Boys 1.25K. Joshua Pendleton finished second in the 13-14 Boys 2.5K. Shreyan Kulkarni placed ninth, and Xavier Zhang was 20th in the 11-12 Boys 2.5K. Lexi Miller took 16th, Kay Payne was 38th and Lily Pendleton finished in a three-way tie for 47th in the 11-12 Girls 2.5K.

This was the first open water competition for six of the eight Club Olympia swimmers, with Joshua Pendleton and Shreyan Kulkarni the only two with prior experience in open water swimming.

Meanwhile, 20 Club Olympia swimmers helped lead Team Indiana to a win in the Central Zone Multi Cultural Meet at Center Grove.

Camila Mejia Murguia had seven top-five finishes in her eight individual events, winning 100 freestyle and 200 free for 11-12 girls. Aahan Gupta also claimed seven top-five finishes, winning the boys 10U 200 freestyle.

Rebeca Mejia Murguia took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke with four additional top-10 finishes. Lexi Miller claimed third in the girls 11-12 200 freestyle. Josh Pendleton and Chad Pendleton combined for eight top-10 finishes on a limited schedule. Club Olympia Swimmers also competed as part of several winning and top-five relay teams for Team Indiana.

Also contributing points to Team Indiana were Arjun Agarkar, Sarthak Deshmukh, Cali Gray, Myra Jaryal, Xavier Zhang, Bella Zhang, Vivan Shah, Kay Payne, Adir Joshi, Aashka Shah and Lily Pendleton. Grey Bateman, Vihaan Gallege and Ricky Singh also competed.

Donner athletes swim for Team Indiana

Four Donner Swim Club athletes helped Team Indiana to victory at the Central Zone Multi Cultural meet at Center Grove.

Mridula Muthukumaran scored 23 points. She finished in the top 10 in the 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle and as part of Team Indiana’s 200 freestyle relay and was top 20 in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay.

Cora Tregoning scored 13 points. She finished in the top 10 in the 200 breaststroke and as part of Team Indiana’s 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams and was top 20 in the 200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

Donner Swim Club’s Ritvik Prithiviraj swam for Team Indiana in last weekend’s USA Swimming Central Zone Multicultural Meet at Center Grove.

Ritvik Prithiviraj scored four points. He finished in the top 20 in the 100 breaststroke and 50 breaststroke and as part of Team Indiana’s 200 freestyle relay.

Caroline Crawford also participated in several relays and individual events for Team Indiana.

Meanwhile, the Donner and Columbus North High School swimmers started a water safety program last weekend in conjunction with the Bartholomew County Safe Kids Program. Team members helped work with kids to learn water safety in case they fall in or find themselves in a dangerous water situation. The program will continue on a bi-monthly bases, and more information can be found on the Bartholomew County Safe Kids website.

Davis competes in Multi Cultural meet

Columbus resident Tristan Davis, who competes for Franklin Regional Swim Team, also swam for Team Indiana in the Central Zone Multi Cultural meet at Center Grove.

Davis finished 14th in the 100 IM and 15th in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle in the boys 10U division. He also swam on Team Indiana’s second-place 200 freestyle relay team with Club Olympia’s Chad Pendleton, Shah and Deshmukh.

Owen Duncan, a third-grader at St. Peter’s Lutheran, made a hole-in-one on No. 11 at Columbus Par 3 on Monday. The 9-year-old was playing with his father Josh and his brother Alex.
