Columbus students honored at state DAR meeting

Two Columbus students were honored recently at the Indiana annual meeting of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Indianapolis.

Kenzie Pendleton, a Columbus North graduate who will attend Brigham Young University this fall, and Allie Wilson, who will be a freshman at Columbus North High School, represented the Joseph Hart Chapter of DAR after winning two locally sponsored national essay contests.

Wilson’s American history essay on John Phillip Sousa was selected as the eighth grade winning entry for Indiana. She also placed second in the east central division of the national society, which includes Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

Pendleton’s winning Good Citizen essay on “What Characteristics Lead to the Making of a Good Citizen” was judged among the 13 finalists at the state level.

Beverly McCloskey, American history chair, and Taffy Schroer, Good Citizen chair, coordinated the essay contests for the Joseph Hart Chapter.
