Thelma C. Harpring

COLUMBUS

Thelma C. Harpring, 95, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, at 2:55 a.m., at Silver Oaks Health Campus while in the care of Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born October 28, 1928, in Hamburg, Indiana, Thelma was the daughter of Clemens and Stella (Schebler) Lecher. Thelma married Edgar “Bud” Harpring May 13, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greensburg. They were married 64 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 9, 2014.

Thelma devoted her life to being a loving wife; homemaker; and an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, and common sense approach to life.

She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus. Her favorite pastimes were reading, word search puzzles, and watching western movies and game shows on television. She was an enthusiastic fan of Purdue Boilermakers basketball…Boiler Up!

A Memorial Mass for Thelma will be celebrated Tuesday, July 30, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Chris Wadelton as celebrant. There will be calling at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Greensburg.

Surviving to cherish Thelma’s memory are her children David (Vicki) Harpring, St. Louis, MO; Jeanette Barker, Columbus; Samuel (Taresa) Harpring, Scipio; John (Belinda) Harpring, Edinburgh; and Susan Walters, Columbus; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, with a great-grandchild due in November. She is also survived by a brother, Tom Lecher, of Oldenburg.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters Elsie Hardebeck, Gertrude Horan, and Arlene Feldman; brother Daniel Lecher; and son-in-law Garry Barker.
