INDIANAPOLIS — Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre goes blonde this summer as it presents the upbeat and lighthearted “Legally Blonde The Musical” beginning July 11.

Based on the 2001 hit MGM movie that made actress Reese Witherspoon a star, the 2007 stage version, despite mixed reviews, was nominated for seven Tony Awards and 10 Drama Desk awards, and gives fans what publicists call “all the fun from the film in an energetic musical.” The stage version also was aired on MTV in 2007.

The plot: Sorority president Elle Woods doesn’t take “no” for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone “serious,” Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu sorority sister has gone before: Harvard Law.

Elle has a rocky start as a new legal student, but this determined young woman makes some friends, finds she has more legal savvy than she realized, and proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

The Broadway presentation lasted for 595 performances.

At Beef & Boards, Olivia Broadwater stars as Elle Woods, who snaps stereotypes as she sets out to prove herself to the world. Griffin Cole stars as Warner Huntington III, who she follows to Harvard after being dumped by him. Starring as the friends she meets along the way are Jacob Butler as Emmett Forrest, Logan Moore as Kyle the UPS guy, Deb Wims as Brook Wyndham, Jaddy Ciucci as Enid Hoopes, Logan Hill as Serena, Maya Mays as Margo, and Holly Wilder as Kate. Jeff Stockberger stars as the successful but pompus and manipulative Professor Callahan.

“Legally Blonde The Musical” is on stage for 50 performances through Aug. 25. Tickets range from $55 to $82 and include Chef Larry Stoops’ dinner buffet and select beverages. (Children under age 3 not admitted.)
