Columbus North athletics announced earlier this week that its students will be admitted free to all home athletic events for the 2024-25 school year.

Students will need to show their North ID badge and lanyard for free admission. It will not be accepted for IHSAA-sanctioned postseason events or any games against Columbus East that are hosted by the Olympians.

“We’ve been working on this plan since February as an attempt to increase student attendance at our home contests. We are very excited to see the Dog Pound packed more regularly this upcoming school year, and we are so grateful for the generosity of our anonymous donors,” athletics director Brian Lewis said in a news release on the school’s athletics website.

“This effort was made possible by some phenomenal donors in our community who were so excited to be part of this project. We hope that we see a significant increase in student attendance at our events so this can continue in future years. We can’t thank our donors enough for making this happen.”

Other news mentioned in the release notes that the All-Sports Passes will remain the same price as recent years, with family passes at $225 and single adults passes being $90. Individual game tickets will increase from $6 to $7.

Lewis mentioned in the release that they considered increasing the price last year, but were able to trim other items from the budget to hold off the price increase until this year.

“We just couldn’t make the numbers work this year as prices for all of our supplies and services have continued to increase without making a small bump in ticket prices. Our hope is that allowing North High School students in for free as well as keeping All-Sports Passes the same price will help offset the financial burden for most families,” Lewis said.

All-Sports Passes will be available for purchase beginning at the annual Blue and White event on Aug. 10.

Senior Lison Cloteaux and junior Aya Saad won the Mental Attitude/Sportsmanship Award. Juniors Lizzie Bodart and Grace Conner were named Most Improved.

Cougars’ Rathburn headed to IUC

Rathburn batted .388 with 16 RBIs this spring in helping the Cougars to a sectional title.

Olympians to host girls soccer camp

The Columbus East girls soccer team will host a free soccer camp on Saturday at the BCSC Soccer Complex for girls who are interested in trying soccer or polishing their skills.

Girls from ages 10-14 will be from 9-10:45 a.m., and girls from ages 6-9 will be from 10:45 a.m.-noon. The camp will be run by the Olympians’ coaching staff and assisted by current players.

A donation of at least one can or box of a non perishable food item will be accepted as an entry fee that will be donated to Columbus East Food Pantry.

No pre-registration is required, but a liability release form will need to be signed by a parent in the morning of the camp. Own soccer shoes, shin guards and water bottles are encouraged.

Incase of bad weather, the camp will be moved to the auxiliary gym at East, and indoor soccer shoes will be needed.
