Allen gets sprint car win at Bloomington

Jacob Allen won the IRA/Maverick sprint car feature race on June 21 at Bloomington Speedway. Allen is the son of National Sprint Car Hall of Fame driver Bobby Allen.

Jacob Allen won the IRA/Maverick sprint car race on June 21 at Bloomington Speedway. Allen, the son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Bobby Allen, took the victory over Emerson Axsom, Chris Windom, Brady Bacon and Darin Naida. Carson Dillion of Terre Haute won the IMCA RaceSaver sprint car main event over Andy Bradley, Bradley Sterrett, Jeff Wimmenauer and Erhan Barrow.

The next scheduled race at Bloomington is slated for July 12.

Hoffman takes Outlaws win at Brownstown

The World of Outlaw Late Model Series rolled into Brownstown Speedway for the 41st Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic, paying $15,000 to win on June 22. The Super Late Models were joined for the racing event by the Pewter Hall Super Stocks and Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stocks.

Minnesota’s Dustin Sorensen and North Carolina’s Nick Hoffman led the field to green for the 50-lap Hoosier Dirt Classic. Dustin Sorensen took the early lead, with Nick Hoffman and Ryan Gustin in hot pursuit. Several cautions in the early laps of the event kept the field close. Bobby Pierce worked his way forward to battle Hoffman for second, and at the halfway point of the race, the top three were Sorensen, Pierce and Hoffman.

Hoffman, using a slightly higher line around the speedway, took the lead on Lap 32 and went on to score his first Brownstown Super Late Model and Hoosier Dirt Classic win. Following Hoffman at the checkers were Sorensen, Pierce, Max McLaughlin and Brandon Sheppard. Rounding out the top 10 were Ryan Gustin, Brian Shirley, Dale McDowell, Devin Gilpin and Chad Stapleton.

Lawrenceburg’s Jason Jameson kicked off the night by setting the fast time for the Super Late Models with a time of 13.196 seconds. Heat race winners were Cade Dillard, Bobby Pierce and Nick Hoffman. Morgan Bagley won the “Last Chance Showdown.”

Pewter Hall Super Stocks produced another good race. Zach Sasser, Greg Amick and Tucker Chastain battled for the lead, with all three drivers leading at some point in the early stages of the race. Chastain of Bedford eventually took the lead for good to get his second win of the year. Zach Sasser, Isaiah Sasser, Colton Sullivan and Greg Amick followed at the checkers.

Cody Ellison and Mickey Hines battled side-by-side for the early lead in the Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stock feature event. Hines of Scipio slowly stretched out the lead and pick up his first win of the year. A good battle from second on back saw Cody Ellison, Josh Turner, Phillip Boudreaux and A.J. Wilson completing the top five.

Lewis wins at Lawrenceburg

Ricky Lewis won the BOSS sprint car feature on June 22 at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Scotty Weir placed second, followed by Nick Bilbee, Jake Swanson and Todd Hobson. Matt Hamilton won the modified feature over Joey Kramer, Nick Snell, Cory Skipton and Ricky Bolton. Landon Ramirez won the hornet division feature over Ryan Paciocco, jack Pflum, Cordell Moore and Brian Pollitt. Joel Andrews took the pure stock feature over Corbin McHenry, John Heaston, Conor Heaston and Eric Sandlin.

Westfall wins at Paragon

Matt Westfall won the Johnson Memorial on June 22 at Paragon Speedway. The event is ran in memory of Mike and Sue Johnson, who formerly promoted the track in the 1980s. Cody Trammell was second to Westfall, followed by Daylon Chambers, Geoff Ensign and Harley Burns. Josh Litton won the super stock feature over Justin Massie, Derek Groomer, Grant Simpson and Douglas McCullough. Chris Hillman Jr. won the hornet division feature over Conner Garrison, Jeremy Wilson, Edward Freeman and Josh Litton. Sheldon Oberle won the bomber feature.

Several winners in Jennings go-karts

The Jennings County Kart Track, which hosts events at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon, completed two shows on June 8 and 10.

The winners from the June 8 races were Huntly Hupp (kid kart), Larson Sheets (rookie red), Hank Woodruff (clone lite), Macy Staton (junior 2 purple plate), Luke Hannah (beginner champ), Travis Wilburn (clone sumo heavy), Mikey Payne (junior champ) and Leroy Blevins (rwyb).

The winners from the June 10 fair race program were Robby Young (clone lite and clone heavy), Macy Staton (junior 2 green plate), Koby King (pre stocks 350) and Maverick Brison (pro purple).

From 60 years ago, the Columbus Kart Club winners were Fielding Smith and Steve Dorsett.

From 50 years ago this weekend at Brownstown, Gene Petro won the late model feature over Russ Petro, John Warner, Don Hobbs and Luther Burton.

From this weekend in 1974 at 25th Street Fairgrounds Raceway in Columbus, Russ Petro outran his brother Gene to win the late model feature.

From 50 years ago in 1974 at Twin Cities, Mike Stewart won the feature race over Phil Fultz, Larry Exner, Bruce Steinert and Chuck Gilpin.

From 40 years ago in 1984 at Brownstown, Kenny Simpson won the late model feature over Charlie Sentman, Dusty Chapman, Dick Potts and Dick Phillips. Terry Eaglin won the modified street stock feature over Bill Norton, Mike Bechelli, Earl Plessinger and Don Barnett.

Also in 1984 at Twin Citie,s Doug Ault won the late model feature over Steve Boley, C.J. Rayburn, Danny Eichler and Jeff Herbert. Merrill Downey won the modified street stock feature over Mark Barber, Willie Sallee, Darrell Smallwood and Buddy Franks.
