Donner swimmers compete in trio of meets

Athletes from Donner Swim Club competed in three separate meets last weekend.

Mridula Muthukumaran finished 13th out of 32 swimmers in the 13-and-over girls 1.65K event at the Indiana Open Water State meet at Geist Waterfront Park in Fishers. Cora Tregoning and Kanav Mehta swam lifetime-bests.

Ritvik Prithiviraj, Anand Neela and Cooper Bringman had lifetime-bests in the 11-12 boys 800-meter event. Ella Bringman and Courtland Reed had to exit the water midway through their 11-12 girls race because of a storm. The meet was canceled after that, and Emily Meek was unable to swim her event.

Meek led the Donner swimmers with 95 points in the Purdue Boiler Bash. She had seven lifetime-bests, three new Indiana Divisional qualifying times and four new Indiana Age-Group State cut times in the 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 backstroke.

Diego Cotero Tapia scored 79 points. He had six lifetime-bests and qualified for the Indiana Senior State meet in the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly.

Cooper Bringman scored 54 points. He had lifetime-bests and qualified for Indiana Divisional in all of his events.

Prithiviraj scored 27 points in his one day competing. He had lifetime-bests in all three of his events and achieved Divisional qualifying times in the 50 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 50 backstroke.

Elle Fitzsimmons scored 26 points. She had lifetime-bests in all six of her events and earned Divisional cuts in the 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.

Cora Tregoning scored 25 points. She had lifetime-bests and qualified for Divisional in all seven of her events.

Shabarirajan Thangarag scored 18 points. He had lifetime-bests in six of his seven events.

Ella Bringman scored 16 points. She had lifetime-bests in six of her seven events and earned Divisional cuts in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.

Jack Fitzsimmons and Anna Reed also achieved Divisional cuts.

In the Rivi Summer Spectacular, Leah Zhang led Donner with 63 points. She had four lifetime-bests.

Matteo Castelan scored 58 points. He had lifetime-bests in all four of his events.

Muthukumaran scored 55 points. She had lifetime-best in all four of her events.

Neil Johnson scored 32 points in one day of competing.

Abhyud Ponnathpur scored 20 points. He had five lifetime-bests.

Kashvi Mehta scored seven points with four lifetime-bests. Kanav Mehta scored five points with three lifetime-bests.

Sanchita Ponnathpur scored four points. She had four lifetime-bests.

Noah Zhang scored three points. He had lifetime-bests in five of six events.

Nicolas Bosers scored two points. He had lifetime-bests in six of seven events and earned Divisional cuts in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Shereya Yepuri scored two points and had five lifetime-bests.

Davis takes fifth in Kentucky Open Water

Columbus resident Tristan Davis finished fifth in the 10-and-under boys division in Thursday’s Kentucky Open Water Championships at Taylorsville Lake State Park. He swam 21 minutes, 47 seconds for 1,000 meters.

Davis and two other swimmers from Columbus swam for Franklin Regional Swim Team against 13 teams from Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia and Honduras in last weekend’s FRST Summer Classic. He had two top-five and eight top-eight finishes and achieved Divisional cuts in the 50 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.

Deuce Callaway had one top-five and two top-10 finishes in the 13-14 boys division. He picked up his first Divisional cut in the 200 breaststroke.

Elena Abney had two top-15 finishes. She earned a Divisional cut in the 50 breaststroke.
