Columbus East High School graduate Sydney Newell was selected as a Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She was one of 53 girls from across the country to be recognized.
1999
Daniel Eliot, 15, and Ashley Walls, 13, were keeping the Brookside subdivision, near the Woodside Industrial Park, in touch with Columbus issues through their 10-page biweekly newspaper, D and A Republic. Eliot had started the paper in 1996 with every issue produced manually, and Walls joined him a year later, equipped with a computer.
1974
The Columbus Babe Ruth baseball team won four of its five games, backed by by the strong hitting and pitching of Greg Quinn. Columbus opened with 10-0 and 10-2 wins over Rushville, then won a doubleheader over Noblesville 7-0 and 11-1.
