National Weather Service: Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are possible today through Friday

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The National Weather Service is predicting multiple chances for thunderstorms today through Friday, Bartholomew County Emergency Management said.

A front is currently over a Terre Haute to Muncie line and areas are experiencing 20 to 30 mph wind gusts ahead of the front. A dry break may occur after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight could be severe with damaging winds.

Heavy rain may occur with localized flooding (main concern is further south along the Ohio River however, areas that receive multiple rounds of heavy rain may still see some localized flooding.

There is a potential high heat risk on Wednesday.

High temperatures over southern Indiana are expected to exceed 90 with dew points in the low to mid-70s.

Max Heat Index Values of 100-105 are possible.

There is a marginal risk for severe weather Thursday, with generalized thunderstorm activity Thursday morning, redeveloping in the evening.

A dry break may occur around 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Primary risk with these storms is damaging wind gusts and lightning.
