Ruby Denney

Ruby Denney, 95, of Columbus, IN passed peacefully in her sleep, June 30, 2024. She is celebrating in her eternal, heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and all her family who passed before her.

Ruby was born, December 26,1928 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky. Her parents were Lindsay and Vina Mullins. Ruby married John Franklin Denney, who she called “Johnny” August 5, 1949. John and Ruby were blessed with three sons, Gary Denney of Columbus, IN, Dennis Denney (Vicki) of Yorktown, IN, and Randy Denney of Columbus, IN. Ruby was the Mammaw of Billy Denney, Lisa Vernon, Kyle Denney (Monica), Amberly Riley and Brandy Hauser (Travis). Ruby was the great grandma of 15 and great-great grandma of 4.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents (Lindsay and Vina), husband (John), brothers and sisters Walter Mullins (Maggie), Chester Mullins (Eunice), Everett Mullins (Myrtle), Marie Barnard (Bill) and Lillian Amos (Bob).

Ruby was salutatorian of her graduating class at Crab Orchard High School. Ruby worked and retired from Roviar (Sewing Factory) in Columbus, IN. She was a very proud member of Calvary Nazarene Church for 65 years. She taught Sunday school for many of those years and took a lot of pride in cooking for all the church dinners and for organizing the food trains for members in need along with her life-long, best friend Eva Barringer. Ruby also spent countless hours at the Senior Center chatting with friends and making dolls that would be given out at Columbus Regional Hospital. Ruby also enjoyed quilting. She loved gifting her family with her home-made dolls and quilts. She also loved to travel and collect state plates that she hung proudly in her kitchen. She was a die-hard IU basketball fan who loved to taunt her relatives who were Kentucky Wildcat fans. Ruby was a prayer warrior and an exemplary role model to all who knew her.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Rev. Paul Blair officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 1:00 p.m. Friday at barkesweaverglick.com.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
