Columbus Police Department Lt. Matt Myers transitioned into his new job as Bartholomew County sheriff, despite not being officially elected into the position yet. Myers had no opponent in the Nov. 4 general election, after he defeated three other Republican candidates in the May 6 primary.

1999

The Hillcrest Addition Project 2000 Parade, made of a procession of more than 25 children and adults, made its way through the neighborhood collecting nonperishable food donations for Love Chapel.

1974

Firemen from East Columbus, Elizabethtown, Clifford, Hope and Taylorsville spent the afternoon “watering” Ceraland after the recreation area’s water went dry. Cummins Engine Co. employees and family members celebrating Independence Day appreciated the appearance in the stifling heat.
