Motorcyclist dies in Jackson County crash

SEYMOUR — Jackson County Sheriff deputies say a motorcyclist died Wednesday in a single vehicle crash at 1:32 p.m. near County Road 300E and County Road 300S just east of State Road 39.

The motorcyclist was identified as Kim C. Kaufman, 66, Vallonia, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

The initial investigation states Kaufman was traveling westbound on County Road 300S on a silver 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, according to Jackson County Lt. Adam Nicholson, who was assisted by Sheriff Rick Meyer and Deputy Aaron Wilkins.

According to investigators, Kaufman was traveling westbound on County Road 300S and had passed a passenger car that was also westbound and then attempted to pass a dump truck. While attempting to pass the dump truck, Kaufman lost control of the motorcycle and left the south side of the road, struck a mailbox, which resulted in Kaufman being ejected off the motorcycle.

An autopsy and toxicology testing is planned for Friday.

Assisting at the scene were Brownstown Police Department, Jackson County EMS, Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department and the coroner’s office.
