162 go karts from Southern Indiana and parts of Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky gather for the second annual Hope Go Kart Grand Prix on July 4, 1974.

2014

Thousands of residents kicked off their three-day holiday weekend at the 57th annual Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, which had ideal conditions with temperatures in the 70s and a sunny sky. Events including the Demolition Derby, Autocross and Midnight Madness Midway drew in a crowd.

1999

Parades, picnics and live music throughout Columbus battled the sweltering heat, which rose to the 90s. One such parade included the Mead Village neighborhood parade, which was made up of about 100 children and adults on bicycles, mopeds, lawn mowers and four-wheelers.

1974

Freedom Fest, a Fourth of July celebration in Columbus, included contests and games such as sack races, cake decorating and a beard contest, as well as picnics and an Independence Day parade.
