County under slight risk for severe weather today

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County is under a slight risk for severe weather Tuesday as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl move across Indiana.

Shower and thunderstorm coverage will increase through the day.

Localized flash flooding is possible from torrential rainfall with 1.5 to 2.0 inches of total rainfall possible through Wednesday.  Heaviest rainfall will occur during the evening into early overnight hours tonight.

There is a potential for isolated, brief, weaker tornadoes.  Tornado threat is greatest towards a line from Vincennes to Seymour, lesser chances as you move further north.

Strong wind gusts up to 40 mph possible as the storm departs Wednesday.

The greatest threat for severe weather is 6 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday with severe weather most likely between 6 and 10 p.m.

 Heaviest rainfall is expected between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Flash flooding is a concern with heavy rainfall rates and damaging winds of 40 to 60 mph are possible, along with small hail and an isolated tornado.
