Looking Back – July 10

Reporter J.D. Lewis donned the familiar garb of a circus clown to report on circus life from a performer’s viewpoint on July 9, 1974, when the George Matthews Great London Circus set up for two shows at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.

2014

Cummins Inc. was recognized by Chrysler as Technical Cost Reduction Supplier of the Year and Powertrain Supplier of the Year at the Chrysler Group’s 2014 Annual Strategy Meeting and Supplier Awards Meeting in Auburn Hills, Mich. Cummins was the only company to receive recognition in more than one of the 18 categories.

1999

A $20,000 grant to support a project directed by James W. Clack, associate professor of biology, was awarded to the Indiana University Purdue University Columbus campus by the National Science Foundation. The project, titled “Computer Enhancement of Undergraduate Biology Laboratory Experience,” aimed to install computers, hardware and software for a computer workstation in the IUPUC biology laboratories.

1974

Mill Race Theater opened its season at Mill Race Park with “Androcles and the Lion” and “In One Basket,” both sponsored by the Columbus Department of Parks and Recreation. The musical “Carousel” was also to be performed later in the season.
