Traffic stop leads to arrest of local man on drug-related charges

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man on drug-related charges after a traffic stop at 12:07 a.m. July 2 in the area of North U.S. 31 and North Horizon Drive.

Deputy Max Medina stopped the vehicle after determining it had a moving violation and equipment violation, said Sgt. Dane Duke, sheriff’s department spokesman.

Medina approached the vehicle and made contact with the two occupants. During the traffic stop, a search was conducted and during the search, a glass smoking device with residue was located inside the vehicle.

The passenger, Marlon Cowan Jr. 48, of 7740 Parkland Drive, Columbus, told deputies that the pipe was his, Duke said. Cowan also informed deputies that he had methamphetamine in his left pants pocket.

Approximately 19 grams of methamphetamine was collected from Cowan’s pocket. Cowan was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. He remains in custody on a $41,000 bond, jail officials said.
