Legal Aid to have free clinic

Legal Aid will have a free Legal Aid Walk In Clinic on Tuesday, July 23, at the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., in Columbus. The clinic will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and is for low-income residents.

The Legal Aid Clinic and Pro Bono Program utilizes local volunteer attorneys, offering free legal consultations to low-income individuals for those who might not otherwise be able to afford the counsel of an attorney.

Individuals coming to the Legal Aid Clinic can expect to receive a 10-minute consultation to answer general and eviction questions, offer legal information, or to receive other limited pro se assistance or advice, in person, on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no need to register in advance.

A general advice clinic will be from 3 to 4 p.m. for questions on adoption, advance directives, family law, guardianship, landlord/tenant, powers of attorney, protective orders, simple wills and small estates. No criminal law questions are allowed.

An eviction clinic is from 4 to 5 p.m.
