2014

Melina Ann Fox of Greensburg became the first town administrator for the town of Hope. Fox said she sought the position because she admired Hope’s character and history.

1999

Whitney Pratt of Columbus became the sixth person of the year to finish walking the entire 2,158-mile Appalachian Trail. She hiked 12 to 14 hours and averaged between 20 and 25 miles a day.

1974

Columbus East High School’s marching band won second place in the American Legion State Convention Parade Contest in Fort Wayne. The band received the Mayor’s Cup and $150, which they planned to use for future band trips.
