Cooling stations open today as high heat blankets the area

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Cooling stations are open today in Bartholomew County as an extended period of hot and humid conditions is expected locally and throughout the state.

Daily high temperatures in the low to mid 90s with heat indices approaching 100 during the afternoon hours may be hazardous for sensitive and vulnerable populations.

Donner Center, 739 22nd St., Columbus will be open and staffed on Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crates will be available from Columbus Animal Care for those that have animals. Animals will not be allowed to run free, unless they are a service animal. Food, showers, and areas for sleep are NOT available.

Other cooling stations that are open will be the Bartholomew County Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the library branch in Hope, 635 Harrison St., from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
