Lillie Morris

SCOTTSBURG

Lillie White Morris, 93, died July 12th in Scottsburg, IN. She was born in Perry County, Kentucky on April 13, 1931 to Margaret Davidson and Green White.

Growing up during the Great Depression in southern Kentucky, the family survived on what they could grow in their garden and the milk from their cow. Her family moved to Austin, IN when she was 13 years old to find work at Morgan Packing Company. It was in Austin that she met her future husband, Steve Morris. They married on August 6, 1949 and were married for 57 years until Steve’s death in 2005. They had three children, Raymond (Elizabeth) Morris, Mary (Brent) Poyner, and John (Sheila) Morris.

For many years Lillie and Steve grew a large garden including numerous daylilies which they hybridized in great variety and sold to buyers throughout a three-state region. Their grandchildren loved visiting and picking strawberries fresh out of the garden. She moved to Scottsburg following Steve’s death.

She is survived by her three children and one granddaughter Rebecca (Mike) Fincham, with whom she shared a love of rocks. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Roxie White and Elizabeth McClellan, her husband, Steve Morris and her grandson, Elliott Morris.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin. Visitation is scheduled for July 16 at 10:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and in recognition of the many years Lillie beautified her environment with flowers of every hue, the family requests that anyone moved to do so do one thing to make the world more beautiful.
