Looking Back – July 19

Danny Wiltsey, 19 months, uses a finger to pet a 5-week-old lion cub while his mother, Mary Ann Wiltsey, watches on July 19, 1974. The lioness, named Pandora, arrived at the Fur, Fin and Feather Pet Shop on Central Avenue earlier in the week.

2014

The Indian Association of Columbus held its annual Summerfest at the Mill Race Park amphitheater, which included both traditional and Bollywood-style dances, food, music and games. A live band performed Bollywood music and karaoke was also available.

1999

A group of Columbus teams worked with Pennsylvania park designer Mark Podgurski to build a skate park at Clifty Park. Including public and private parks, Podgurski’s resume included work on ramps used on ESPN’s X-Games.

1974

James Hyneman, owner of the Fur, Fin and Feather pet shop on Central Avenue, debuted his new pet lion cub, named Pandora. Hyneman frequently walked the cub on a leash around the business before she grew to be too large.
