Roell gets first career sprint car win at Lawrenceburg

Kayla Roell won her first career sprint car feature on July 13 at Lawrenceburg Speedway. With her in Victory Lane is promoter Shane McHenry.

Kayla Roell raced her way from the seventh starting position to the lead in just six laps on her way to her first career feature win in a Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Car on July 13 at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

She also became the first female to win a sprint car feature since Lawrenceburg track has been reconfigured to the 3/8-mile current layout. Roell’s performance was impressive to say the least. She was clearly the fastest car on the track and, showed it working her way through the field.

Max Adams and Scotty Weir kept it close, finishing second and third, followed by Shaun Westerfeld and Garrett Abrams. Heat race winners were Max Adams and Tyler Kendall. The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to the track for the annual running of the Dick Gaines Memorial on Aug. 17.

Matt Hamilton won the open wheel modified feature over Scotty Kincaid, Zack Bolton, Jay Greene and Josh Davis. Joel Andrews won the pure stock feature over Gary Hume, Danny Eichler, Mike Ackman and William Dirr. Joe Pflum captured the hornet division feature over Jack Pflum, Preston Evans, Natalie Rupp and Ryan Paciocco.

The next event at Lawrenceburg will be the USAC Indiana Sprint Week race on July 28.

Sasser wins Patman Memorial

The highly competitive Pewter Hall Super Stocks took their turn in the spotlight July 13 at Brownstown Speedway with the running of the Scott Patman Memorial. The Scott Patman Memorial was originally scheduled for May 4, but was rained out and rescheduled. The race paid $1,200 to the Super Stock winner.

Isaiah Sasser of Bedford scored his second win of the year, winning the Scott Patman Memorial. Sasser earlier this year got his first ever Brownstown win. Tucker Chastain jumped to the lead at the start of the 29-lap feature event with Branden Carr in tow, both running the high side of the track. Sasser running third, on the bottom of the track, kept the leaders in his site.

Sasser patiently worked his way to the lead with 10 laps to go and started to stretch out his lead. With two laps to go, the caution flew, bunching the field for a green-white-checkered finish. Sasser was able to hold off the field to get the win ahead of Tucker Chastain, Zach Sasser, Greg Amick and Matt Boknecht. Tanner Chastain, Blake Hull, Sam Wray, Jim Ruddick and Grant Simpson completed the top 10. Webb Lee (who started 22nd) received the “Slim Fast” award for advancing the most positions during the race as he moved forward 11 spots.

Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh got his third win of the year in the P3 Graphix Indiana Late Model Series Pro Late Model feature. Stapleton maintained a comfortable lead the entire caution free 25 laps to secure the win. Tyler Cain, Tyler Neal, Steve Peeden and Zack Burton trailed at the finish.

Preston Carr of Underwood, who got his first ever win in Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stocks two weeks ago, parked it in Victory Lane for the second time this year. Carr used the top side of the track to take the lead from Brent McMillan near the halfway point of the event to get the win. Brent McMillan ran second, followed by Josh Turner, A.J. Wilson and Tommy Fleenor.

Make it win No. 5 for Matt Cranmer of Memphis in Crown Vic feature action. Cranmer took the lead on Lap 6 and stayed there for the rest of the caution-free feature. Phillip Boudreaux, Eric Lewis, Dalton Fleenor and Todd Cain rounded out the top five.

Michael Brewer of North Vernon made it three straight wins in the Hornet division. This was Brewer’s sixth win of the season. Brewer led Jeremy Shemwell, Brian Pollitt, Josh Hallett and Matt Miller at the checkers.

Jake Scott of Morgantown won the sprint car feature on July 12 at Paragon Speedway. Cody Trammell was second, followed by Logan Calderwood, Andrew Prather and Travis Berryhill. Tyler Cain of Seymour won the crate late model feature over Tyler Neal, Derek Groomer, Remington Gill and Marty O’Neal.
