Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. received a grant providing funding for mental health resources that will be available to all of the county.
CRH Foundation provided a $90,000 grant to pay for two years of access to parentguidance.org, where families can find online mental health help.
The website includes courses developed by mental health experts delving into a range of topics including anxiety and depression, child development and technology.
Another feature is a list of solicited questions from parents answered by a licensed therapist. “What to do if your teenage son won’t even talk to you or his therapist? He has isolated himself from the rest of the family and has shown a lot of disrespect,” one reads.
The platform also has a parent coaching program where participants will set customized road maps for parenting goals, take assessments to track progress and meet with a coach bi-weekly.
BCSC Superintendent Chad Phillips said that the school corporation is serving as an administrator of the grant and that it’s a part of the Mental Health Matters Initiative.
“This is a county-wide grant that allows any child and parent to access these resources even if they’re not a BCSC family — so a home-school family or private school family could access those resources,” Phillips said before a vote acknowledging receipt of the grant during a school board meeting last week.
