Brian’s picks

* The Disney coming-of-age movie “Moana” is a cool flick, period — no matter your gender. But I would imagine it is an especially cooler flick if you’re watching it on a summer evening — all while you’re waist-deep in cooling water. So it will be at darkfall at about 8:45 p.m. Friday when Columbus Parks and Recreation Department’s summer Movies in the Park features a free showing of the film at Donner Aquatic Center, 739 22nd St. in Columbus. Miss Rachel’s Neat Treats will be on hand for snacks for purchase. The film’s presentation on a blow-up screen with top-notch outdoor sound are made possible by support from the Columbus Park Foundation. * Tripp, one of the friendliest ambassadors in the city at Hotel Indigo in downtown Columbus, will play host to his pooch and people friends alike again at the monthly gathering of Canines and Cocktails from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the venue’s patio at 400 Brown St. The informal get-togethers during the dog days of summer always feature live music, a few specialty menu items, and of course, a varied bar selection. Plus, I’ve always found some irony and light humor in the fact that area pooches are so docile at the event — right across from the post office, the home of the proverbial postal carriers they legendarily abhor.
