J.P. Mayer was hired as the new dean of students at Hauser Jr.-Sr. High School, where he began working with Principal Shawn Price. Meyer earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and master’s degree from the University of Houston.

Rosa Maria Navas, a nurse from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, visited the Volunteers in Medicine clinic in Columbus on behalf of Honduras’ public health department to gather information to help the country rebuild from the destruction of Hurricane Mitch.

Richard Lugar, mayor of Indianapolis and Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, visited the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair and said he had “never seen anything like it.” Other Republican candidates that visited the fair were Pat Yoho, Delson Cox and William Allen.
