Richard “Dick” Voris Wissel

NORTH VERNON

Richard Voris Wissel, 91, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:33 p.m., on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Deacon Larry French will be officiating. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the funeral home.

Born on April 20, 1933, in Jennings County, Richard, known as Dick to all who loved him, was the son of Lloyd and Pauline (Burgmeier) Wissel Jackson. He was united in marriage to Betty Zehr on February 16, 1953. She survives.

Dick graduated from Hayden High School. He owned Sinclair Stations before owning and operating Wissel’s Garage until 1994. Dick was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Kaiser Car Club. He was a part of the National Guard. In his free time. Dick enjoyed restoring antique cars, going to car shows, photography, traveling, going boating, and water skiing. Most of all, Dick loved and cherish spending time surrounded by his family.

In addition to his wife, Betty Wissel of North Vernon, survivors include son, Bruce (Nancy) Wissel of Richmond; daughters, Janet (William) Berry of North Vernon, Karen (Shawn) Tuell of Columbus; sister, Jean (John) Nichter of North Vernon; grandchildren, Brent (Hannah Kraemer) Day, Craig (Jennifer) Day, Leslie (Anthony) Harper, Bryce (Jenni) Wissel, and Katie Wissel; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kay Sizemore, sister, Dolores Horstman; brother, Maurice Jackson, and stepsister, June Phillips.
