Columbus teen dies in early Sunday morning vehicle accident

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A teenager from Columbus died in a vehicle accident at 1:19 a.m. Sunday after Columbus police were called to the scene on a report of a car fire.

Bartholomew County Deputy Coroner Charlie Deweese pronounced Thomas Miguel DeLaCruz, 17, Columbus, dead at the scene on County Road 400N near “Tinkey Bridge,” east of U.S. 31.  The Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene by Columbus Police Department, who had responded to a 1:19 a.m. report of a vehicle fire.  When they arrived, they found a crashed vehicle and a body. Deweese said DeLaCruz died from massive traumatic injuries sustained in the crash.  The family has been notified.  The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and CPD continue to investigate the crash.
