2014

Mark Jones was unanimously hired as the city’s new parks director by the Columbus Parks and Recreation Board and the mayor of Columbus. The parks department had not had a permanent director since late December 2013.

1999

Columbus’ C4 Solar Stealth team, comprised of 11 Columbus North, East and Seymour high school students, won the Winston Solar Challenge for the second year in a row. The team raced 580 miles from Dallas to Los Angeles and was awarded the Pitsco trophy.

1974

The Republic women’s editor Jean Prather was named the first recipient of the Ladies Editor of the Year award by the Indiana American Legion Auxiliary. The official announcement was made by Mrs. James Sego, communications chairman of the Indiana Department of the Auxiliary.
