North Vernon man accused of breaking into home, making food, and entering bedroom of female resident

NORTH VERNON — A North Vernon man was arrested in the early morning hours of Sunday when Jennings County Sheriff deputies were dispatched at approximately 2 a.m. to a residence in the 1500 block of East County Road 150South about a suspect who was in their home.
A male subject, later identified as Jonathan Skaggs, 27, North Vernon, entered into the residence, made himself some food, and then entered the bedroom of a female resident, deputies said. Skaggs then chased the female through the residence.
The male homeowner was able to retrieve a firearm and hold Skaggs at gunpoint until Deputy Michael Watts and Deputy Alex Campbell were able to arrive on scene. Skaggs was then taken into custody without further incident. Skaggs advised deputies that he had tried to break into several different homes but this was the first residence that he was able to access with an unlocked door.
Skaggs was remanded to the Jennings County Jail where he remains incarcerated on the preliminary charges of burglary and residential entry.
Chief Deputy Cody Low stated, “This was a very scary incident for a local homeowner that could have had a much more tragic ending. We want to strongly advise residents to make sure that they lock their homes.”
