Cooling stations open in Columbus, Hope as hot and humid conditions arrive

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Cooling stations are opening in the city and county today as temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s to lower 90s with dew points in the 70s as humidity. The temperatures will feel like about 100 degrees with the humidity.

Cooling Station locations are located at:

  • Donner Center, 739 22nd St., today and Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crates from Columbus Animal Care will be available for animals, and animals will not be allowed to roam free in the center. Service animals do not have to be crated.
  • The Bartholomew County Main Library, 536 Fifth St., 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Bartholomew County Library Hope branch, 635 Harrison St., 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Food, showers and area for sleep are not available at these locations. City officials request that the rules of the facility and other individuals in the facility are respected.
