CPD, firefighters at scene of collision between bicyclist and vehicle

4 p.m. update

Columbus police say a bicyclist escaped serious injury, but was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital, after he collided with a car at the intersection of National Road and (Herman Darlage Drive) Middle Road at about 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said the 26-year-old male on the bicycle suffered back pain and scrapes and abrasions in the incident after the collision with a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old male, who was not injured.

Police believe the bicyclist was in the crosswalk when the collision occurred, crossing (Herman Darlage Drive) Middle Road at the National Road intersection.

Traffic was disrupted for about 20 minutes as Columbus police, firefighters and Columbus Regional Health ambulance personnel were on the scene.

The scene has been cleared and traffic is snow normal at the intersection.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police and firefighters, along with an ambulance, are at the scene of an accident involving a bicyclist and a vehicle at National Road in front of Steak n Shake that happened at about 12:30 p.m.

The bicyclist was being treated at the scene by Columbus Regional Hospital ambulance and firefighters.

Traffic at the intersection is backed up and motorists may want to avoid the area if possible.
